BISHOP J.P. Swinson
Biography
Bishop J.P. Swinson married the "Pearl" of his eye, Pearl M. Melvin on
February 6, 1960. They have 3 children, James, Darryl (who passed in 1999),
and Candus, 3 grandchildren, 1 goddaughter, and 3 godsons.

Bishop J. P. Swinson and First Lady Pearl Swinson were saved and baptized
under the ministry of the Power House of Deliverance of the Apostolic Faith,
Inc.,pastor, the late J.H. Covington.

Always a willing an obedient servant
Bishop J.P. Swinson was called into the ministry in September of 1973 and was
ordained in September 1974, one year later.

Under the dynamic leadership ,of the late J.H. Covington, he was nurtured and became the assistant pastor of the
Power House of Deliverance #2. First Lady Swinson knowing that she needed to
work in the ministry also worked faithfully as a church announcer, secretary, missionary circle and what ever other capacity the church needed.

He stayed under Bishop Covington's ministry until 1985 when the Lord led him back to
Fayetteville, NC. Knowing that he needed to reach the lost, he helped many
local ministries.

The Lord spoke to Bishop J.P. Swinson once again. This time it was to begin a ministry and on the second Sunday in February 1988 the Highway Holiness Church was founded.

Bishop J.P. Swinson was zealous in the search for a place to worship. His first attempt to hold worship service was in a
trailer. But due to the many city code restrictions this never became a
reality.

In September 1988, Pastor Swinson still having the determination to be lead by the Lord found a small building at 423 Alfred Street. Even though the building was quite small, God blessed in every service and the membership grew rapidly. It was often said that a big tree that was adjacent to the building kept it from falling down Still encouraged and having faith in God,
Pastor Swinson knew that the church ministry would need another building very
soon.

Once again stepping out on faith, the vision became reality when on April 15, 1989 ground was broken for the new sanctuary at 2725 Providence Street. One year later on April 15, 1990 Easter Sunday, the first service was held at the new address. A few years later in September 1993, the church name was changed to Highway Holiness Church of Deliverance of the Apostolic Faith,
Inc.
This year the church ministry has expanded to include a children's church ministry. We are presently working to accomplish many goals and the Highway Holiness family is constantly growing. The church has purchased land in which another vision of Pastor Swinson is to be fulfilled - a facility for the youth
and the elderly.
